Doug's View of the 2000 250cc Canadian Champ

8/29/2000

Recapped By: Carl Hein

As all of us fans of Doug DeHaan know that he didn't win this year's 2000 Canadian National championship but that didn't stop VRM on getting Doug's input on the 2000 Canadian Champ 37 year old Doug Dubach.

VRM:

This year Doug Dubach, an experienced rider won the championship.  What are your feeling on a more experience rider beat out the young guns?

Doug:

It's obvious your talking about the age factor.  Believe it or not it doesn't bother me.

VRM:

Why not?

Doug:

Well first of all he hauls!  I put a positive spin on it by looking at it as if he's can race at such a competitive speed this long in his career I can do it to.  Not to long ago a Professional Motocross career might last only until your early twenties.  It just shows if you keep in shape you can extend your career a lot longer and be extremely competitive.  It gives me something to shoot for.

VRM:

Was he that much faster than everyone else?

Doug:

I don't think so.

VRM:

Why was he winning then?

Doug:

I came up with a few reason.  He always gets good starts, he is very good at passing traffic and his 426 is very fast.

VRM:

Do you think his experience paid off?

Doug:

Definitely, he knows what to do to win and that is all that matters, winning!
